Dom Oriona

Julia Fiedorczuk

Keynote
A story about a world plunged in crisis –
both ecological and humanitarian – and
about a woman who is trying to write
about it, although her life is also falling to
pieces.

Selling Points
 Incredibly topical novel about crisis-torn
reality and people who although they try
to oppose it are themselves floundering in
powerlessness and depression.
 A novel imbued with Fiedorczuk’s
characteristic sensitivity towards nature,
which she treats as part of humankind’s
cultural heritage.
 The language of a reporter is
interwoven with poetry, and reflections
on contemporary life with a mythical
reinterpretation of the world.
 An original literary form – a melange
of all sorts of styles, including
the protagonist’s blog and diary.
 A moving portrait of a woman in mental
crisis, burned-out and discouraged, trying
to regain the will and energy to keep going.
 The author is a super popular, multiaward-
winning prose writer and poet.

Description
The House of Orion is a panoramic
novel that tries to seize the essence of
the contemporary world, in which more
and more nomads are encountered –

people fleeing from the horror of war and
the consequences of a climate disaster.
Eliza Adler is a politically committed
journalist, an activist-reporter who
discusses issues such as ecology and
women’s rights in her articles. We make
her acquaintance during a personal
crisis while she is experiencing
psychological exhaustion, during a trip to
the Polish–Belorussian border, where she
is documenting the stories of immigrants
sleeping in tents. Under the pretext of
photographing nature in the Białowieża
Forest she finds herself in an exclusion
zone, where she encounters activists,
tracks refugees, and talks to women.
She is simultaneously plunged into an
investigation – with the help of Google
Maps – of the stories of migrants from
the entire planet, and wonders about
the ‘migration’ of earthly resources,
mythology and astronomy. The House
of Orion is a wonderful, critical story
about the state of western civilization, an
attempt to map out the place where all of
us find ourselves today.

Lovers of contemporary prose.

culture.
